Migration & Integration

Overview

Integration is evident in areas where people interact, such as in the workplace and in local environments like neighborhoods. In this context, we conduct research on the topics of migration and work. The interplay and ambiguities within the world of work and the working environment are analyzed, with the cultural dimension playing a decisive role in successful integration alongside language skills and the recognition of qualifications. A key focus of labor market integration is migrant entrepreneurship, with generation, sectoral distribution, ethnicity and knowledge intensity of start-ups and their integration into ecosystems being the most important areas of research. The topic of skilled workers and immigration is being investigated at the IAT, particularly with regard to the recruitment and retention of skilled workers and highly qualified employees.

IMANI - Societal Embeddedness of Migrant Startups in Local Ecosystems - Measuring the Impact of Mutual Relationship of Innovativeness

IMANI aims to identify, visualize and harness the innovation potential of migrant startups for local and remote startup ecosystems. To this end, a regenerative impact measurement that takes into account individual, organizational and social mental models is being further developed, piloted and tested for its transfer readiness in a participatory manner with the AiDiA - Afro-German Startup Pitch initiative and other players in the startup ecosystem.
