Regional development & structure politics

Overview

Recently, attempts have been made to establish a preventative structural policy. While structural policy programs are prescribed by the higher levels of the EU, federal and state governments and adapted locally, regional development is a local policy and is pursued independently of the structural policy objectives of the higher spatial level. Both structural policy and regional development are currently required to shape the ecological transformation and overcome obstacles to development in structurally weak regions. At the IAT, we are researching how this can be achieved on the ground. We are also discussing the conditions under which a more forward-looking policy can be established and the issue of regional disparities: how can regional players be strengthened in order to pursue active regional development?

Concept for a health centre in the project region 3L-Lippe

In more rural regions, there is a systematic need for planning and development in the healthcare setting, which helps to ensure healthcare provision for the population and proactively meet future challenges. At the same time, a needs-oriented healthcare strategy makes it possible to exploit opportunities for the regional development of rural areas.
