Abstract:
The project about new innovation systems in Gelsenkirchen is based on the assumption that within the framework of international economies single regions need a profile in specific areas of competence. This enables them to offer an innovative milieu to resident business and to be attractive for new investors. Innovation systems work as the motor for economic developement of al location and are crucial for the future economic profile of Gelsenkirchen. The project was carried out in continuous co-operation with the clients in administration and industry. On the basis of statistical analysis and personal interviews with innovative companies and related institutions, the Solar-Energy couldt be identified as an innovation system. Further important competencies can be seen in the Water Industry, the Chemical Industry and the Metal Processing Industry. The project was committed to a vision that industrial developement in the long run can only be successful when the business community and politicians work together. Correspondingly, the project results were discussed in the framework of strategy dialogues and workshops with companies and regional authorities, and then bundled for implementation.
