Head of the research department “Spatial Capital“. Master and PhD in Spatial Planning at the University of Dortmund. Until 2001 banking apprenticeship and consultant work with special focus on “sustainability”. Since 2002 researcher at the Institute for Work and Technology (IAT), main research area: Regional and local economies, regional development and balanced structural policy, the role of regional banking in economic development, impacts and perception of spatial identities.

- Honour Award “Foundation of German Cities, Communities, and Districts for the Promotion of Municipal Sciences 2002 [Förderpreis der Stiftung der Deutschen Städte, Gemeinden und Kreise zur Förderung der Kommunalwissenschaften]” granted by the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu), Berlin
- European Savings Banks Academic Award 2008 (1st place winner) granted by the European Savings Banks Group, Brussels
