Early school leaving (ESL) is defined as the percentage of the population aged 18-24 years, who participated in lower secondary education and not in further education or other programs of training high school or intermediate vocational training.

According to the European Commission and the European Council, there are three groups of ESL:

• Children of low educational level, especially when it comes to educational level of their mothers.
• Immigrants ESL rate reached 44% in 2011, 43.6% in 2012. The decrease between these two points may be linked to the current economic crisis that has caused the decline of the immigrant population.
• ESL is higher among men, 27.2%, than among women, 19.8%. It also applied for immigrant men and women.

The reasons why a person decides to leave school are multiple and is often a combination of different factors, namely:

• The poor results at the level of compulsory secondary education.
• Poor attraction for young people to continue in education.
• Poor funding of immigrant families.
• The sector of construction economy is paying tribute by attracting thousands of young people to do unskilled work in a well-paid job.
• Shortly social recognition of VET as an alternative to the status of high school first and then to university.

This project aims to reduce the dropout rate by increasing students’ motivation in their own educational project by maximizing their skills and capabilities through coaching. This methodology shows the full potential of every person, strengthens it and gives the students the necessary resources to increase their skills.

Activities

1. Structural analysis

This analysis will be performed in each project partner country and will aim to identify the main risk factors both locally and nationally for the student dropout problem.

2. Cooperative Online Platform

An online platform, whose main objective is to provide an interactive and collaborative place, will contain products and allows the development of activities that can be used by educators to tackle the challenge of combating ESL.

3. Coaching Guide

This is a guide that will contain the final results of the activities and best practices made in Italy, Turkey and Spain as well as a series of recommendations on how to integrate this method in educational institutions.

4. eBook

It is an electronic book to compile articles written in English, by different educators in each country not only in relation to the statement on the target group made in the project, but also on any subject related to dropout.

5. Event

It is planned to realise a multiplier event at the end of the project to improve communication, dissemination and final impact.
